Do you live to fulfill your dreams, or do you live to prove yourself to others or to please others?

For so many years, I lived my life with the wrong goals in mind. I went to study accounting to be loved by my father. I married early to be loved by my peers. I used too many drugs to be loved by my ex-husband.

I am not alone here. It happens especially to those of us who did not feel loved and nourished in childhood. Often, our desire to be loved is our main motivation until we learn to truly love ourselves.

Sometimes trying to be loved can also lead to good directions. For example, I started practicing yoga and stayed devoted to this path to gain love from my yoga teacher. But it isn’t always the case.

Aquarius is the sign of goals and dreams. It is the sign of the future that we see for the world, which starts with the future that we see for ourselves.

Aquarius never lives her life to be loved or to satisfy others. She does not care what others think of her. On the contrary, on her high road, she likes to be her weird, special, and unique self.  She is true to herself; she lives to fulfill her vision. And when she defines her vision, which she often does, she doesn’t think of proving herself to others.

Aquarius is also the sign of astrology, which means that it is all about self-research and self-knowledge. Aristotle said that “Knowing yourself is the beginning of all wisdom”. When we have a good understanding of ourselves, our emotional needs, our desires, our soul’s purpose and career purpose, our gifts, and our challenges, we can make good decisions for ourselves. We can envision a future that will bring us a sense of fulfillment and joy, and then aim for it.

Aquarius is also highly intuitive. Her intuition guides her towards creating visions which are attainable and lead to a life of wellbeing.  

The last important thing that makes Aquarius a great visionary and gives her the abilities to turn her visions into reality, is her optimism. She believes that we all came here to evolve, progress, improve our lives and improve the world.  

If we all created visions, and if we followed them while remaining true to ourselves, knowing ourselves, listening to our intuition and being optimistic, we would live in bliss.

This is what the high road of Aquarius is calling us to do, not just for ourselves! Aquarius is a transpersonal sign; she cares about the world at large as much as she cares about herself. If we all lived in bliss, with a sense of fulfillment, accomplishment, and joy, the world would be a much better place. It could be the inspirational, utopian place that Aquarius has in mind for us.

Suggestions for contemplation and journaling for the week of the New Moon in Aquarius:

• What is my vision for the next three or five years? Does this vision create a feeling of fulfillment, accomplishment, and joy? If not, how do I need to change it so that it does?
• Does my vision come solely from my heart, or do I also try to impress someone, prove myself to someone, or please someone by achieving my vision?
• Do I feel that my vision is based on solid self-knowledge? What do I still not understand about myself? There will always be things that we haven’t figured out yet. Be honest with yourself.
• Does my intuition support my vision? Do I feel inside of me that my vision is attainable? In what way can I align my vision with my intuition?
• Am I optimistic about my chances to fulfill my vision? Are there fears that hold me back from getting there? How can I find courage to deal with my fears and make it happen?
