Full Moon in Capricorn – Cultivating a Sense of Home That Supports Our Success

July 1, 2023

This week starts with moon in Capricorn. On Monday, July 3, there is a full moon in Capricorn. The sun is in Cancer and like in every full moon, we are asked to tend to the dialogue between these two signs.

This entire week, Saturn trines the sun. Since Saturn rules Capricorn, it supports us in accessing the high road of moon in Capricorn.

My moon is in Capricorn and my rising is Cancer, so I live the conversation between these two.

Moon in astrology rules our emotional processing. When the moon is in Capricorn, there is a tendency to manage and control our emotions.

To a moon in Capricorn person, success and fulfillment are important for emotional well-being. Capricorn’s desire to be disciplined, reliable, and successful, can sometimes go along with emotional repression. We are so busy and goal oriented that there is no time for emotions.

The high road of the conversation between Cancer and Capricorn, is to become excellent in emotional processing. Capricorn seeks excellence in everything, and Cancer’s purpose is to learn and teach about the emotional realm. When we take the spiritual path, our challenges become our teachers, and our weaknesses turn into strengths.

Another issue that is a part of this Cancer-Capricorn dialogue relates to a sense of home.

During more than two decades of my life, I was highly focused on my career, while neglecting many personal aspects of my life. An extreme example was that for almost a year, I entered my car from the passenger side, because the door on the driver’s side didn’t open.

I used my career busyness as an excuse to avoid my personal issues and so, my home and personal life did not generate a sense of well-being. The messier my home life became, the less I tended to it, which made it even more messy, and made me run away from it even more.

In a session with a client this week, we concluded that he was going out and drinking more than he would have wanted, because he did not feel comfortable in his own home. He did not have any place in his house where he could sit down and contemplate without interference. His relationship with his life partner was tense and the house did not give him a cozy or safe feeling.

In my interview with Søren Bregendal, who played Erik in the TV show Emily in Paris, Søren shared that as he started his career at age 15 and was always motivated to succeed, Capricorn energy was easy for him. His personal evolution revolved around connecting with Cancer energy. Through time he realized that he needed to create a safe environment for himself, where he could work with his emotions and psychological patters.

A home is a place where we feel safe and comfortable to be who we are. A place where we are not judged or criticized. A place where we feel protected, loved, nourished, and supported. Ideally a strong sense of home is internalized. It becomes a part of us. We take it with us wherever we go.

We need a safe space to process our emotions, to connect with the painful aspects of the human experience. We need some down time to completely remove our defenses and cuddle with ourselves and loved ones so that we can connect with our soul.

In the sun chapter of my book, Planetary Balance, I explain that the ego is a valuable component of our being. With that, I mention that in order for the ego to be healthy, we need to let the soul lead the way. But how the hell do we get connected with our soul?

When we allow ourselves to dive deeper into our emotions, we create a bridge to our soul. The more we are aligned with our authentic selves, the more we are connected with our soul.

We connect with our soul by taking the spiritual path. I mean the real path. Not the path that bypasses our experience and makes us repress ourselves while we pretend to be happy and calm.

The real spiritual path means a raw, honest experience of what we truly desire, feel, and sense. It is easier said than done because there is a lot of pain and fear involved, but when we have the feeling of a sacred space and a safe home within us, we can do just about anything.

To succeed and excel, like Capricorn calls us to do, we need the feeling of a safe and supporting home. On the other hand, if we sink into the comfort and safety of our home, and rarely get out to meet the world, we should connect with some Capricorn energies. We should set up some goals and start working with discipline to achieve them.

Why do we have to do that? Because after all, we came here to do something meaningful. We all have a purpose to fulfill out in the world. If we do not fulfill it, we feel frustrated and out of balance.

Journaling or contemplation ideas for this week:

  • What types of emotions do I try to manage or control?
  • From 1 to 10, how good am I with processing all types of emotions?
  • Do I have a sense of a safe, stable, secure, and cozy home?
  • Do I feel that my home-life supports my career? In what way?
  • Do I feel that my career supports my home life?
  • Do I tend to run away from dealing with my home-life and use my career busyness as an excuse? Or do I tend to stay too much in the comfort and safety of my home and avoid coming out to the world?
