New Moon in Aries & More – How to get the Energy You Need to Cope with this Wonky Time

March 18, 2023

We have a big week coming our way with many shifts and changes.

We start with four planets in Pisces on Sunday. On Monday, the Spring Equinox, the sun reaches the zodiac finish-line in Pisces and starts a new astrological year in Aries.

On Tuesday the moon joins the sun in Aries to a New Moon.

On Thursday, Pluto enters Aquarius for the first time since 1798!!! And on Saturday, Mars enters Cancer, after it has been in Gemini since August 21, 2022.

It’s no wonder that there is a weird, somewhat apocalyptic feeling in the air. Do you feel it?

The Spring Equinox and the transition of the sun from Pisces into Aries bring a feeling of a fresh start. But as Neptune, the ruler of Pisces, still conjuncts the sun, Pisces energy remains with us.

We are in between worlds. The world of Pisces and the world of Aries, the world of Pluto in Capricorn and the world of Pluto in Aquarius. Even Saturn in Pisces is still very new to us.

I felt a lot of fear this week.

The news is scary, politically, financially, and environmentally. Many of the systems and structures that supported us, are collapsing. As a result, voices that kept quiet until now, became louder and louder.

When I feel afraid, I lift my head up and look at the sun, the moon, the visible planets, and the stars. They remind me that they have been here long before us and will stay here long after us. I go to nature to feel the peacefulness of the earth, the trees, and the streams.

The economy, like everything else in life, works in cycles. Every few years we reach a peak and then things go down. Then they go up again. It is the nature of things. The problem is that we are not connected to the cyclic nature of the world, so the falls always take us by surprise.

Astrology connects us with the cycles of life. Just now, some cycles are ending, and new cycles are beginning.

There is one quote that changed my life and always comforts me. I chose it to open the book that I am currently working on:

“Through understanding the whole thing, we begin to trust our world, to realize that there is no such thing as a cosmic conspiracy. The world is a rational world, a kind world, there’s no joke involved. It is a workable situation.”

~Chogyam Trungpa

When things feel so wonky, as they do right now, I take a deep breath and remind myself that the world is a kind world. Somehow, in some cosmic way, all the forces are here to support us, even if this support comes through challenges.

Sun in Aries reminds us that some things are out of our control, but we still have a lot of power to make a difference. It is here to give us the energy we need to move away from the old and step into the new.

It’s up to us to get up every morning and do our work. It’s up to us to live a life worth living. It’s up to us to get out of our broken records, and release ourselves from the hold of our fears, self-doubt, and confusion. It is up to us to find a way to be in service to the world.

Being in service does not mean putting everybody’s needs and wants in a higher priority than yours. The wisdom of Aries is to be in service to others while putting yourself first.

Like they explain on a plane just before takeoff, in case of an emergency, you must put on your mask first, then you help others.

For some of us, this goes against our instincts. We are not used to putting ourselves first. But this is the best way to be in service to the world. When you give to others and deplete yourself, you remain empty, you get sick, you can’t give anymore.

Aries is ruled by Mars, and Mars is the planet of masculinity, physicality, and sexuality.

In the NYT’s guest essay Have More Sex, Please! By Magdalene J. Taylor, she brings up studies that show “Americans are having less sex than they have had at any point in at least the past three decades.” She connected this with the rapid increase in loneliness.

Sun in Aries is here to remind us that sex is an important need and an essential ingredient in a life of physical, mental, and emotional health.

There is no better way to open this new annual astrology cycle with a new moon in Aries.

This week will be a great time to ask yourself:

  • What will help me face the challenges of this wonky period in a healthy and supportive way?
  • Do I give enough attention to myself and my needs? Or do I tend to always take care of everyone else and then there is no time or energy to take care of me?
  • What is the best way to address my own needs?
  • What do I need to fight for?
  • In which aspect of my life do I need to give everything I got?
  • In which ways do I need to move my body so that I improve my physical, mental, and emotional health and have lots of energy?
  • Do I have enough sex?
  • How can I best use my energy to be in service to the world?

I entered motherhood when I was 43 years old.

Becoming a mother after I’d “been there, done that” allowed me to dive into motherhood with some life experience and acquired wisdom.

My son has just turned six, and I can start seeing the fruits of my parenting choices. I’d love to share some inspiring insights.
