Transform Your Beliefs to Fulfill Your Dreams
November 16, 2024
If you are a human, you most likely hold some limiting beliefs. We all do. As the Sun moves from Scorpio to Sagittarius, we are asked to identify and transform our limiting beliefs. But how do we identify them and let them go? Here is how.
It was New Year’s Eve some many years ago. My boyfriend at the time and I went to hang out with friends at the local hype restaurant downtown, where the streets were full of happy, colorful people. We sat outside, and I passionately conversed with my yoga friends when I noticed my boyfriend’s absence.
I also noticed that the clock was ticking quicker than usual, igniting my excitement to greet the new year with a kiss. I anxiously raised my head above the crowd, trying to locate my boyfriend among them. But he was nowhere to be found, even when everyone was counting down, even when they were kissing around me.
At about 12:15 AM, my boyfriend showed up. I tried to pretend nothing happened to avoid a public scene, but I could no longer hold it when we went to the car. “Where were you all this time?” I snapped at him, unable to conceal my anger. I never got an answer. What I got was a hail of loud accusations. Too demanding, too needy, too dependent, too cheesy. What a stupid thing it is even to want to kiss at midnight.
We got home and went to sleep upset, with our backs turned at one another. I could not believe this was how my year was starting.
“Why do I always have to hit rock bottom before I move out of a situation?” a friend asked me this week.
We stay in situations that are not good for us because we believe there are no better options. We think that this is the only boyfriend, the only job, the only house, the only friend we’ll ever have. But this is rarely the case.
Even though my experience in that relationship was mainly like what I described here, I kept believing we were meant to be together. Why? Because I was reaching my forties, and he was willing to have a child with me. I believed he was my last resort to becoming a mother.
I still have limiting beliefs that hold me back. For example, when I heard about the initiative to boycott authors who support Israel (yes, there is such a thing), I was discouraged from writing my book. Who would publish it, anyway? I am continuously working on letting them go.
Limiting beliefs are even more prominent for the younger generation. Being labeled as having ADHD, dyslexia, autism, or other mental illnesses or learning disabilities is so common that it’s hard to meet someone younger than 30 who does not suffer from at least one or two of these conditions.
Despite never being diagnosed, I know I have dyslexia. Because I was born in the 70s, having dyslexia never felt limiting. On the contrary, my writing teachers promised that my dyslexia would not prevent me from becoming an author. It’s time to consider whether these diagnoses and labels support us or discourage and limit us.
During Scorpio’s season, we get to meet all the psychological patterns that do not serve us well so that we can transform them. Then, we enter Sagittarius and are asked to rewrite our beliefs in a way that serves the fulfillment of our dreams.
Scorpio will make you feel the pain of clinging to a relationship, a job, or a friendship that is not good for you. It will intensify the arguments, the abuse, and the imbalance so you can see them loud and clear. My friend was right; we do need to hit rock bottom to get the strength and courage required to leave a harmful situation, and Scorpio makes sure that we get there.
When I finally broke up with that boyfriend a few months after that miserable New Year’s Eve, I acknowledged that I might never have another relationship. I had to suffer so much that I was pushed to prefer living my entire life alone and not becoming a mother to staying.
When he moved out, and my home was all mine again, I sat on my purple sofa, a coffee mag nestled in my hands, marveling at the rays of light that were able to penetrate the thick Ficus trees outside my window. I could reconnect with my faith that I deserve someone who would want to kiss me on a New Year’s Eve, who would like to hang out with me when we are with friends, who would care about what I wanted and needed, who would appreciate me and respect me, who would find my personality alluring and inspiring. And guess what? In the end, I got just that.
As the Sun enters Sagittarius this week, review what Scorpio season taught you about your current situation. What rock bottoms did you hit? What beliefs do you need to rewrite in Sagittarius season so that you can fulfill your dreams? I’d love to hear how it resonated with you.
Wishing you a wonderful week,
With love,
Yael
