This week begins with sun in Cancer and moon in Virgo. This is a great combination for staying home (Cancer) and organizing it (Virgo). Have you filed your taxes? Are your finances in order? For some of us, such questions evoke immediate stomach flips. Especially for star gazers like ourselves, dealing with money, taxes, bills, and paperwork does not come easy.

If you nod your head in embarrassment, then organizing your finances is your spiritual work. It sounds like a joke, but it is not.

When reading your chart, you learn which things about yourself you need to embrace, and which require work. It might be that you are intense, different, emotional, sensitive. You might need appreciation, success, time alone or freedom. You might fight these aspects of your personality. You might try to soften yourself or harden yourself because you believe it makes you more lovable.

The truth is that you are most lovable when you are you. But, if you don’t know to take care of your financial affairs, your earth element is weak. And when your earth element is weak, it’s harder to make money, harder to manifest your ideas and harder to fulfill your dreams. Take these Sunday and Monday to organize your home and finances. You won’t regret it.

On Tuesday, the moon enters Libra, Mercury enters Cancer and Mars enters Taurus. Last week there were lots of air and fire in the heavens. Now, we get a stronger water – earth combination.

Cancer is a very emotional sign. This is the reason why it needs home and security; it needs to feel protected. Cancer is so soft on the inside, so sensitive, compassionate, and connected to the human suffering. To be able to feel all of that, Cancer needs a strong earth. Earth absorbs water. Earth contains water. It uses water to grow planets and sustain life. Sun in Cancer feels so much more supported with Mercury by its side and Mars in Taurus. Now they can all work together to make Cancer feel comfortable at her own home, in her own skin.

It’s not easy for Cancer to feel comfortable in her own skin. She needs to wrap herself in soft fabrics, cuddle on a comfy sofa with a comfy blanket, have her favorite cup of tea warm her hands. This is when she sighs and relaxes. She knows why she is here. She accepts suffering as a part of the bargain. She does not run away from it, does not try to fix it. She can just breath to it. This is her most important lesson. I know it too well, I have my rising, Mercury, and Venus in Cancer.

When the moon enters Scorpio on Friday, it joins the watery pool party. With four cosmic bodies in water, you might feel more emotional, more spiritual, more sensitive, or more intense. It might be an unfamiliar territory. You might cry and hate it; you might feel overwhelmed by it. The key is to work with the strong earth we have this week, so that you don’t get carried away by the current. Learn to use your emotions like refreshing rain drops that nourish the earth.

Our world needs more people who are aware of their emotions, know how to experience them, and know how to express them. This is the teaching of Cancer. 

If we were all connected to what we really felt, deep down, underneath all the shields, fears and behavioral patterns, there were no wars. Inside of each of us there is tenderness, love, and compassion. Cancer is here to teach us that.

It is not a wonder that the Dalai Lama is a double Cancer, and that Pema Chodron is a Cancer.
