New Moon in Cancer – Who Nourishes Your Emotional World?

June 25, 2022

I am writing you from San Miguel De Allende in Mexico. We came here for an extended family vacation, to celebrate my mother in law’s 70th birthday. At this very moment, my five years old son and his little cousin are sharing a bath. What a perfect setting to write about the coming new moon in Cancer that will occur on Tuesday, June 28.

The sign of Cancer represents home, family, emotions, spirituality (the Dalai Lama is a double Cancer), and a connection to the human experience. It is sometimes easy to forget that Cancer is also about initiating, business, work, and career, since even though Cancer people are good in business, they do value their home life and family more than anything else.

Family relationships are always complicated. The spiritual teacher, Ram Dass, said, “If you think you are enlightened, go and spend a week with your family”.

You do not choose your parents, your children, and your siblings. You do choose your life partner but even then, since the days you fell in love and chose each other, you’ve both changed. You need to keep on choosing each other every day anew.

You can’t choose your family, but you can choose how involved and engaged you are with your family. You can choose how authentic you are with your family. You can choose if and how you deal with open wounds and behavioral patterns that were caused by your family dynamics.

Your family of origin has left major imprints on you. Do these imprints support your emotional well-being or do they not?

The main question of this new moon in Cancer is – who nourishes your emotional world?

We don’t ask this enough. Relationships should be emotionally nourishing. Just like nourishing food supports your physical health and well-being, nourishing relationships support your emotional health and well-being.

On this new moon you can ask yourself:

  • Do my relationships support my growth and well-being?
  • Do I nourish the people I love?
  • Am I authentic in my relationships with my family?
  • Are there any open wounds related to my relationships with my family? What would be the best way to heal them?

You can break through patterns that hold you back by bringing healing to your childhood wounds. This is what the new moon in Cancer is asking you to do.

The air element is strong this week, with Mercury and Venus in Gemini, Saturn in Aquarius, and Gemini moon on Sunday and Monday. This will help you form your insights into clear ideas and communicate them with others.

The fire element is strong this week, with Jupiter and Mars in Aries and the moon in Leo from Thursday to Saturday. This will help you find your strength and courage to withstand the pain of being a human being with emotions and a family you did not choose.

Fire also reminds you that spending a week with your family, can also by pure fun, as my current vacation proves.

I hope this week nourishes you well.

With love,

Yael
