How to Let Go of Relationships That Diminish Your Light

July 20, 2024

The last week was intense, as it started with an assassination attempt and continued with Shannon Doherty’s death, which flooded our feeds with Beverley Hills 90210 nostalgia.

It is evident, though, that the news and social media do not reflect our real struggles and challenges in life. Politics and celebrities are never an issue in my sessions with clients. This is not to say that these things don’t affect us or do not worry us. We are all very concerned about who will be elected as the next US President, as we should. But the mental and emotional space these concerns take is not as big as we think.

Our inner newsfeed is mostly a tapestry of our perception of self, family, relationships, and work. The stars of our inner newsfeed are romantic partners, children, parents, friends, colleagues, and others who have a place in our lives. Most chances are these people aren’t famous in the outer world. They might not even know that they are our personal psyche’s celebs. They might not realize that we think about them as much as we do or that we are activated by them so much.

The past week, the star of my psyche’s media was a friend with whom I have recently decided to cut connections. I’ve been keeping my distance from her for a long time, and just recently, I was brave enough to communicate my decision and explain my reasons.

Everyone with a place in our lives has some karmic connection with us. Our relationships create threads that connect us with others; some are stronger than others. It is a spiritual concept that we are all one, and there is a lot of truth in that. We are a network of connections that stretches across oceans and lands.

I was surprised at how hard it was to let go of this friendship. I kept dreaming of her, thinking of her, and doubting whether I had done the right thing. Not surprisingly, thanks to the magic of this world, the people I met this week have been dealing with similar challenges. Like me, they struggled to let go of people they realized were not nourishing them. They wanted to put behind them relationships that had been abusive and disrespectful, with no healthy balance of giving and receiving. Relationships that gave them the feeling that something was wrong with them and maintained the perception that they did not deserve to be fully loved.

I found myself affirming to my clients that they did the right thing by letting go of these people in their lives. This affirmation was the most powerful thing they got out of our sessions. It was such a relief, and I could understand that because when the cords are strong, we tend to feel that we can’t live without them or that we did something awful hurting these people.

Then, I took an energy work session with my dear friend Melinda, and she helped me with this process.I want to share her beautiful guidance with you. Melinda asked me to slowly disconnect the threads, all the entanglement and cords that did not support me. Pulling them apart rather than cutting them is like a yellow leaf disconnecting itself from a branch during fall. This was done with permission, with complete positivity and support for the other person and me. Then, and this is the part that I loved the most, these cords are redirected and reconnected back to Earth and source energy; the energy of this connection is returned to Mother Earth.

And how does this relate to this week’s astrology?

On Sunday, there is the 2nd Capricorn Full Moon this month. This Full Moon speaks about how our emotional well-being (Cancer) supports us in sharing our gifts with the world through our work (Capricorn). The people in our lives have the most significant impact on our emotional well-being. It is time to be deliberate in choosing who we truly want in our lives.

On Monday, the Sun enters Leo, the sign ruled by the Sun, connecting with the solar plexus chakra. Leo rules how we shine and how much confidence and self-respect we have in our engagement with others. The cords that connect us with others are just like the rays of the Sun. The healthier they are, the brighter they allow us to shine and share our gifts. If these cords diminish us, weaken us, and burden us, they do not serve us and make it impossible for us to be of service to the world.

This week, think about the cords connecting you with others and how they affect your rays of light. Are there any cords that need strengthening? Are there cords that need to be gently disconnected and returned to earth? I’d love to hear your take on that.

Have a wonderful week,

With love,

Yael
