Full Moon in Sag & Saturn Square Sun – How to Expand Beyond Our Limits

May 27, 2023

I’ve been sick for more than a week now. Nothing serious, just a cold, but it kept me in bed for a few days. I lost my voice and was unable to talk for a while. Being forced to be silent and less communicative did not make any sense when the sun had just entered Gemini and all I wanted was to talk, talk, and talk.

Saturn squares the sun since May 17. This explains the feeling of restriction and limitation that many of us have been feeling recently. Have you?

But Saturn’s restrictions are aimed to support us. I need more silence in my life. It’s not in spite of my being a Gemini, but because of it. As a Gemini, there is too much going on inside my head.

When I lived on my own, I used to wake up, meditate, practice yoga and pranayama, make myself a healthy breakfast and only then, check my phone and connect with the world. On weekends, I used to put my phone on flight mode, stay in bed, and read books.

I am so grateful for having a family. I would not have it any other way, but sometimes I miss the silence I used to have back then. Saturn reminded me that I needed to integrate more silence into my family life.

This week the moon makes its way through Virgo, Libra, and Scorpio, and reaches a full moon in Sagittarius on Saturday. This creates a dialogue between moon in Sagittarius and sun in Gemini.

Both signs are loud in their own way. They are signs of great communicators, wonderful teachers, and talented writers. They love to travel and socialize easily with anyone whom they find interesting. Both are fast, sharp, and impatient.

But as Gemini and Sagittarius are opposing signs, they also have some acute differences. The main difference derives from the fact that Gemini is ruled by Mercury, the smallest planet in the solar system, only slightly larger than our moon. Sagittarius is ruled by Jupiter, the larger planet in the solar system, the size of 1,300 earths.

This week I had a fascinating conversation with someone who has Sagittarius rising. He shared that since he was a child, he had big dreams. Everything seemed small to him. He could not understand why people were willing to settle for living in a small town their whole lives.

I, on the other hand, was born with Saturn on my sun. Even though I have a strong Jupiter in my chart, for most of my life, my expectations of life were pretty limited.

Just in recent years I’ve learned that the more I dare to dream and do, the better life gets. I am amazed to discover how limited and small my perception used to be, and how hard it is for me to expand myself and truly believe that my dreams can come true.

As I see it, there are three main stages that are necessary for expansion and growth.

First, we must identify what we truly want, without feeling guilty or ashamed about it. I’ve just published a post about it on Elephant Journal. Sagittarius moon supports us on that, as it connects us with our inner truth.

The second stage is to be willing to say what we want out loud. I want to…become a bestselling author, win an Oscar, be on the Oprah Winfrey show, receive a Noble Prize, bring peace to the world, you name it. Some people find it hard to voice their desires. Gemini sun enhances our communication capabilities and enables us to express ourselves.

The third stage is to believe that we can do it. This is the hardest part. The undercurrent voices that many of us have say, who am I to succeed? I am not important, I am not special, I do not deserve it.

Often times, these voices are subconscious, buried deep inside of us. They exist because we did not get the reassurance we needed in our childhood. No one told us that we were capable, beautiful, and talented.

Sagittarius moon can help us be more optimistic and have faith in what might seem like fantasy to us. It can give us courage to act. The more often we try, the more we are amazed to find that what seemed like a dream can become reality. Such positive experiences change our subconscious patterns. Our voices stop undermining us.

It’s no wonder then, that there are many famous people with sun in Gemini and moon in Sagittarius. Nicole Kidman, Tom Holland, Naomi Campbell, Lenny Kravitz, Liam Neeson, and Bar Refaeli are a just a few.

This is a combination that makes people great communicators and gives them the capacity to dream big, be optimistic and believe in themselves.

But don’t think that because Gemini is ruled by a small planet, there is something wrong with it! Gemini is the sign of people who remember everyone’s birthdays and anniversaries. They can live in the same town their whole lives, and be happy, which is a gift. They are truly engaged with the people around them and have a tribe to support their healthy expansion and growth.

This week, ask yourself:

  • What do I want that requires growth and exaptation?
  • Do I dream big enough?
  • Do I have an undercurrent voice that tells me that I can’t really get what I want?
  • Can I act with courage and communicate my inner desires at least to my closest friends?
  • Do I have a tribe of people who are here to support my growth?

Many of us feel guilty for wanting things for our ego, like success, fame, being in the spotlight, being center stage, looking good and shining.

This new Elephant Journal publication, raises the discussion about how we refer to what we truly want and offers ways for dealing with our desires authentically and constructively.
