From Cheer to Clarity: The Honest Path to Your Best 2026

January 1, 2026

I hope you are excited about 2026. And I hope you ask yourself, “How can I make this year my best year yet?” Because that’s the question you need to ask to make it so.

One of my favorite Christmas movies this year was Arthur. And one of my favorite scenes in the movie was when Arthur needed to get from his little boat in the middle of the ocean to the sleigh and reindeers passing above him in the sky. Arthur needed a way to fly.

Now we’ve all watched Peter Pan, where we have learned that to fly, we need to think positive thoughts. But Arthur understands that, actually, to fly, he needs to worry.

You see, for Arthur, worrying is his superpower, what motivates him to act, his way of caring. And with worrying, he flies up, takes hold of the sleigh, and manages to do the impossible and deliver a gift to one girl who would have been neglected, if it wasn’t for him.

I hope you are excited about 2026. And I hope you ask yourself, “How can I make this year my best year yet?” Because that’s the question you need to ask to make it so.

You need to start with this question and put the intention, and even if you still don’t know the exact answer, or how you are going to actually do it, you can think about the general direction of where you want to be at the end of this year.

And why did I bring up Arthur and his worries that made him fly?

Because if there is one thing you can do this year that will change everything for you, it is to reverse everything you have known about how you are supposed to be and how your life is supposed to be.

For example, instead of trying to think positive thoughts, love your worries and see how wonderful and caring you are for having them.

Instead of always trying to be grateful, try to be honest about what you truly feel. When things feel icky and uncomfortable, know that there is nothing wrong with you or the world – it is just the nature of things.

2026 is all about being real and honest.

And all along, you thought positivity would make you fly, but actually, authenticity will.

You will start feeling the ease right away.

During my Christmas vacation, my nephew was sick with HFMD, and I didn’t want us to get sick, so I decided not see them until the last day. I disappointed them and my son, who wanted to meet his cousins. I expressed my honest emotions of hurt to a friend of mine, and it didn’t go so well. Then my husband got sick with the flu.

Of course, there was a part of me that wanted to resist all of this and held to the belief that I was broken if I couldn’t maintain harmony in my friendships, and that something was wrong with me if I was disappointing others, and why was it all happening to me?

But then I paused. I took a deep breath. I put my hands on my heart and connected with my emotions. I reminded myself that there was nothing wrong with me or with my life.

By being willing to be with the ickiness of the situation without trying to beautify, fix, or change it, I achieved a profound level of ease. I could enjoy all the wonderful parts of our vacation, like the perfect weather that I could enjoy sitting at the patio of our room, the beauty of nature around me, the family we got to spend time with, the meaningful conversations, and the laughter of my son biking in the spacious outdoors with his grandmother by his side.

This year, commit to being truthful about what you experience, instead of trying to turn worry into positive thinking, and you’ll start witnessing the magic yourself.
