Do You Truly Love Yourself?

February 15, 2025

As the Sun enters Pisces, the sign of self-love, it’s time to make changes that can help you fall in love with yourself. Here is how.

I was immersed in my long self-care night routine. After brushing, flossing, showering, and applying mists, serums, balms, and lotions, I was finally ready for my book before bedtime. I was about to open the door from the bathroom to the bedroom, but for some reason, I stopped to look at my reflection in the big mirror that covered that door.

Usually, when I look at myself in the mirror, I tell myself, “You look old and wrinkled; maybe you should consider a facelift or Botox after all. Your teeth look bad, your hair is thin and dull, and your recent haircut is a disaster. Looking like that will get you nowhere.” Of course, I always catch myself and tell myself I am beautiful, just like I am. I can even find beauty in myself, but my initial instinct is to criticize.

This time, however, it was different. I looked at myself, and instead of the usual negative chatter came curiosity and fascination. I got closer to my reflection and was so surprised that I removed my glasses to gaze directly into my own eyes with wonder. It was like I was looking at myself for the first time.

Actually, I was looking at myself for the first time because I had never looked at myself this way before. My eyes shone brightly and radiated warmth and love. I felt so safe with them – they seemed so wise, beautiful, and magical. I stayed there, I don’t know for how long, and beamed joyfully as I fell in love with myself.

When my clients tell me they want to find self-love before pursuing their dreams, I always tell them there is no moment when you fall in love with yourself. Self-love is an ongoing process that takes a lifetime. My self-love journey did not start there and did not just happen out of thin air—it has been a long process of making good, healthy choices.

I recently quit my addiction to chocolate and cannabis. I started exercising vigorously and consistently three times a week. I lost extra weight. I let go of toxic relationships. I got back to writing my book. I cook more nourishing meals like soups and stews and eat less quick meals like bread and cheese. I significantly reduced my social media consumption. I hired a friend to help me with overdue business tasks.

From this place of mental, physical, and emotional health, it was only natural that I would fall in love with myself.

My self-love journey does not end here. There are still aspects of myself that I need to learn to love. I will learn to love myself so much more. Sometimes, I will lose my self-love and will have to regain it all over again.

This week, we enter Pisces season. Pisces is the sign of self-love. It represents the part of us directly linked to divinity—the part that knows we are an inseparable part of the divine and, in being so, are divine. We are children of God; we came here to co-create a beautiful world based on values of love and compassion.

To access this beautiful high road of Pisces, we need to be very grounded. Our divinity resides in the temple of our body. We can’t fully tap into our divinity if our physical, mental, or emotional state isn’t well. If our inner world is cluttered and clouded, we can’t see our inner radiating beauty. This is why, to reach self-love, it’s not enough to talk about our issues. We need to act and make changes to our lives. We need to take care of our bodies and our relationships. We need to let go of our addictions.

This week, find some time to look at yourself in the mirror. Look deeply into your eyes and notice what you feel. If you feel overwhelmed with self-love, tell yourself – I love you [your name].

If you don’t feel love, that is also okay. Just notice it. Have compassion for yourself for not loving yourself right now, but commit to initiating your journey towards self-love. Ask yourself: “What do I need to do to truly love myself?” You can get inspired by the things that helped me reach self-love or do something different. Know that self-love is within your reach, and it is up to you to make the changes that will get you there.

I’d love to hear your thoughts.

Have a wonderful week.

With love,

Yael
